NonMotor International Longitudinal PD Study (NILS)

NonMotor International Longitudinal PD Study (NILS)

Longitudinal study non motor symptoms PD: treatment effect/tolerability. All People with Parkinson’s are encouraged to be part of the study. The study requires initial questionnaires to be filled out and whenever you have an appointment you will be given a questionnaire to complete. People with Parkinson’s then have the opportunity to discuss their symptoms and diagnosis identified in the questionnaires with the healthcare professional.

The Parkinson's Pain Study (PD Pain)

The Parkinson's Pain Study (PD Pain)

Clinical Validation of the first specific pain questionnaire and pain scale for Parkinson’s disease (King’s PD Pain Quest/King’s PD Pain Scale). Pain in PD is known to be a troublesome symptom and is one which can be presistent throughout the diagnosis. With a robust questionnaire, we hope to identify methods to understand PD pain better and help identify methods to help releave pain. This is first of its kind in PD and aims to help all patients.

Care of Late-Stage Parkinsonism (CLaSP)

Care of Late-Stage Parkinsonism (CLaSP)

This study aims to evaluate the needs and provision of care for patients who have had Parkinsonism for several years and their carers. It covers six European countries, to compare the effectiveness of different health and social care systems and to lay the foundation for improved outcomes across this population. The researchers are interested to talk to people who have had Parkinson’s for longer than seven years and their carers.

LRRK2 study

LRRK2 study

It’s rare for Parkinson’s to be inherited – the condition is directly caused by genetic changes in less than 5% of cases – but of these cases changes in a gene called LRRK2 are the most common cause. LRRK2 has a familial pattern of inheritance and variations in this gene are more common in certain populations including the Ashkenazi Jewish community and people of north African descent. The researchers are interested in talking people with a family history of Parkinson’s and who come from these communities.

RAPSODI

RAPSODI

RAPSODI is a pioneering study which uses the internet to find new ways to diagnose Parkinson’s earlier and develop life changing treatments. The research team is interested in the link between the GBA gene, a known factor in a condition called Gaucher disease, and Parkinson’s, and are interested in talking to people with Gaucher disease and their relatives.

VIP Vision in Parkinson’s

VIP Vision in Parkinson’s

VIP Vision in Parkinson’s is a study exploring some of the changes people with Parkinson’s experience with perception in vision.

Using Genetics to understand Parkinson's disease

Using Genetics to understand Parkinson's disease

The project will sequence 100,000 genomes from around 70,000 people. The aim is to create a new genomic medicine service for the NHS – transforming the way people are cared for. We would like to hear from patients with early onset (age at onset under 45) or familial Parkinson’s (other family members affected).

Parkinson's Families Project

Parkinson's Families Project

The aim of the study is to identify new genes that predispose or cause Parkinson’s Disease or Parkinsonism. We are particularly interested in studying the genetic makeup of two groups of people; those who developed Parkinson’s before the age of 45 and those with family with Parkinson’s.
